Number one: A good leader inspires and motivates. He makes plans, having a certain vision in mind, which he eventually shares with his team members. He encourages his members to work as a unit towards that goal, and he leads by example. Number two: A good leader knows how to listen. In order to become a good leader, you have to listen to everyone in the team and take a conscious decision. If someone is talking to you, it is important to listen to everything that they are saying. Besides, you don’t know if what they have to say is useful or not.
Number three: A good leader is flexible. He recognizes peoples’ needs outside work life in order to achieve better result on the work. He allows for risks to be taken, and he stays cool under pressure. In other words, a good leader never passes his stress to his subordinates. Number four: A good leader is always humble. He never gets too big for his shoes, and he knows how to admit his faults. If you don’t know something, don’t give a made up answer. Admit that you don’t know and find out as soon as you are able. If you’re wrong about something, don’t be offended, and learn from your mistakes instead.
Number five: A good leader knows how to communicate with others. He allows employees and colleagues to share their opinions and concerns. When information is given, he gets opinions from employees. He also gives honest and unbiased feedback regularly, and gives clear directions as well.
These are just some of the many characteristics of a good leader. Keep in mind, though, that it takes experience and time to use those skills to become a good leader.
