Economic Development In Developing Countries
In relation with economic development organizations what does colonial legacy mean?
Governmental organizations such as the World Bank that focuses on the growth of the economy in developing countries finacially and technically…..> does the organization address the colonial legacy?….. What does colonial legacy mean in this case?
I would assume that it means the left over structure created by the colonising country such as buildings, railways, ports, roads etc. It could also include language, currency, legal systems and religion.
This type of legacy can be both advantageous and limiting – e.g. Sometimes rail roads run to places which are of no real benefit as the system was designed for an empire and not for that country. Language allows better communication with the former colony but may limit contacts with other nations etc.
