Importance Of Community Development
What role does human experience play in the development of religious belief?
Okay guys and girls, unfortunately i’ve been assigned a religion class and i have NO idea what to write about so if you’d be so kind to answer my questions with your best opinions, i would definitely appreciate it. I just need some input and ideas for my paper. What role does human experience play in the development of religious belief? What are the reported benefits of religious belief? What does it mean to be a “holy” person? How does religious belief reinforce the importance of “community”?
Are there times when it does not?
What role does human experience play?
Without experiences, people would not have religious beliefs. For each person, the foundation of their religious beliefs are adopted from formerly developed concepts, or their the result of personal experiences. Note… the adoption process is experiential.
What are the reported benefits of religious belief?
According to some theology, the benefit could be spiritual (eg: eternal life, enlightenment, etc). Scientifically speaking, religious beliefs can bring comfort and allow a person to firmly integrate into society.
What does it mean to be a “holy” person?
This is a religious term, and therefore subject to the religion and denomination in question. A typical Christian view of the term takes it to mean, a person without sin or a person who is living sinlessly (aka living a godly life).
How does religious belief reinforce the importance of “community”?
Religion sometimes reinforces the idea of “community” by gathering people together for the same purpose… whether it be weekly church gatherings, mission trips, or community service.
Are there times when it does not?
At times a religious leader leads their people down a path that is not culturally acceptable. One obvious example is Westboro Baptist Church. This can make a congregation feel like the community is either the enemy, or in need of drastic change. Either way, they’re ostracized and withdraw from the community.
