Is the US Military ready to suppress US citizens during economic collapse?
The report from the War College’s Strategic Studies Institute warns that the U.S. military must prepare for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States” that could be provoked by “unforeseen economic collapse” or “loss of functioning political and legal order.”
Entitled “Known Unknowns: Unconventional ‘Strategic Shocks’ in Defense Strategy Development,” the report was produced by Nathan Freier, a recently retired Army lieutenant colonel who is a professor at the college — the Army’s main training institute for prospective senior officers.
He writes: “To the extent events like this involve organized violence against local, state, and national authorities and exceed the capacity of the former two to restore public order and protect vulnerable populations, DoD [Department of Defense] would be required to fill the gap.”
i’m too tired to get into the all the materials that you are citing, and a lot that i have had briefed to me, in my 24 years in the service.
basically, you run into two different laws, one saying you can’t use the US inside the boarders against US citizens, and a second, lessor known that says, you can use troops against citizens (this is the sticky point) with threats/attacks (on the troops or to protect citizens).
the base line that i would like you to understand is that soldiers are not policemen, they are there to kill the enemy, and thus make peace.
while lincoln writes, if i make my enemy my friend, have i not destroyed my enemy, the soldier does not have the luxury of trying to befriend some enemies of the united states.
there are us citizens that are enemies and always will be. from organizations such as elf, to the we campaign, each has a detrimental affect that effects this country.
what the good COL has not addressed in the paper, is that people in power 2nd guess soldiers in combat. soldiers put in this position will be made ineffective by the sorry losers we have in public office.
in iraq, we had a ROE that was always changing. you could leave in the morning and return a few hours later to a whole new ROE (that is rule of engagement).
