Obstacles To Economic Development
what could be the obstacles to economic development in the philippines?
there are so many obstacle that hinder economic development in the philippines:
first, politics. politics and economics are partners in crime. they developed this enbreakable bond that without the other, neither will developed its full potential. look at the richer nations across the globe, one thing in common to these nations are political stability, political maturity and political openess. politics sets the goals, it sets the development plan for a nation. we need a well planned economic development agenda, couple with a strong political will, in order for us to be developed nation. yes, we are progressing ( believe in it), however, we are not blooming to our full potentianl. we have a lot to offer and the political departments of our government must lead. lead with vigor and zeal, lead with vision.
2. attitude of the people…we have the tendency to procastinate. why not do it now, when it is possible to do it ASAP? we love delay. we are un patient as a people and we are always complaining. back in college, a few drinking buddies of mine coined this concpet “pisik sa bawd”..is a cebuano term which, it closed transaltion, would mean “drop of a wave”..example, if you wont throw your candy wrapper on the street, it seems that you are not totally effective. however, if 10,000 people wont throw his/her candy wrapper on the street, then there is a big difference. you are now part of a wave of change sweeping and perhaps cleansing the nation.
ofw are being praised worldwide for being hardworking, dedicated, passionate on their jobs..why cant we do it here? as this one station aptly puts it “walang iwanan sa bayan ni juan” …
3. im catholic, but i think the church is too zealous not to let go of is role in governance…we are in a state wherein there is a separtion of church and state. yet, the church has this invisible hand over all government officials to follow what they want to be done..sometimes, government policies are block by the very influencial CBCP. proposed laws are stalled because of the vehement opposition of the church. and our “puppet” elective officials, succumbed to this threat. tsk..tsk..tsk..where are no longer in the Spanish era wherein there is marriage of state and church…
so unless government acts, and we as a people do our share responsible and deligently, there could be no stopping our development
